The population of Muslim in India is almost as great as the entire population of Pakistan, equal to the population of Bangladesh, and greater than that of Egypt.

Yet Muslims in India remain relatively marginalised and under-represented in government and the media. Their lives and predicaments are little known among outsiders and non-Muslim Indians.

Poverty and lack of education is having an effects on Indian Muslims. Increasing hostility in public attitudes, discrimination at the hands of police and other officials, biased educational curricula, biased views of history, and the cultural misunderstandings.

Although Muslims in India have for the most part remained loyal citizens, Indian Muslims feel the insecurity, and now instability.
